The streets around the square and the rail platform get tight, with limited curbside space, angled parking, and pedestrian traffic on a weekend, so the driver walks the block first and sets the truck where the carry stays short and out of the way. That last leg into a bungalow or up to a loft is the part we sweat: the narrow stair, the freight elevator if there is one, the set-down without a wall scuff. Out on the Candelas side the homes are easy to load but the elevation climbs toward the foothills, so a winter storm or an April blizzard can ice the newer streets that face north, and we salt the path and keep the load moving while it holds. The dry, thin mile-high air means we pace the crew on a stair-heavy day.
